By now you’ve heard the story of the agency that got fired for tweeting the F word.  The guy at the agency blames TweetDeck for the problem – and maybe it was – but the problem with social networking sites, like Twitter, is they still rely on humans to run the networks.

Or do they?

According to Jim Giles writing in New Scientist, fake tweets by ‘socialbot’ fool hundreds of followers.  According to Giles, three anonymous teams have let loose software that pretends to be human and used it to manipulate a group of Twitter users.
